Which apps do you need in Bali in 2026: transport, communication, weather, payments and surfing

Updated 4 September 2026. You do not need one mandatory app in Bali; you need a small toolkit for different tasks: finding an address, booking a ride, messaging a driver, checking rain and tides, keeping a tourism-levy receipt or ordering food. Install the essentials before your flight and save your accommodation address offline.

1. Google Maps — maps and places

Use Google Maps for hotels, cafés, clinics, ATMs and pickup points. Save important places and download an offline map for your area. Treat reviews and travel times as estimates: rain, ceremonies, accidents and traffic can change a route quickly.

2. WhatsApp — everyday communication

Hotels, villas, surf schools, drivers and small cafés often use WhatsApp. Send a location pin, confirm meeting times and keep agreements in the chat. Never share SMS codes, card details or backup codes with strangers.

3. Grab and Gojek — rides, food and delivery

It is useful to have both: driver availability, price, pickup zones and payment methods vary by area and account. Grab combines rides, food, shopping and courier services; Gojek offers GoRide, GoCar, GoFood, GoSend and more. Compare the final fare, choose the pickup point carefully and never ride a motorbike without a helmet. Cash, cards, GoPay and GrabPay availability depends on the order and account.

Official Grab Indonesia and Gojek.

4. Love Bali — tourism levy

Foreign visitors can use the official Love Bali service to pay the tourism levy and keep the confirmation. Use the official domain only and do not send passport or card details through random messages.

5. Info BMKG — weather, air and earthquakes

Info BMKG is the official Indonesian meteorology app for Android and iOS. It provides weather, air-quality and earthquake information. Check it before boat trips, hikes, diving and long drives, while remembering that a local shower can differ from a district forecast.

6. Google Translate — language and menus

Download offline English and Indonesian packs. The camera can translate menus and signs, while conversation mode helps in simple situations. It is not a substitute for a professional interpreter in medical, legal or financial matters.

7. Halodoc — consultations and pharmacies

Halodoc AndroidHalodoc iPhone

Halodoc may help you find a telemedicine consultation, pharmacy or medicine delivery where available. It is not an emergency service. For urgent danger contact local emergency services or go to a hospital; prescriptions, consultation language, payment and delivery depend on the medicine and location.

8. Tokopedia and Lazada — useful for longer stays

For a short holiday, marketplaces may not be worth the wait and address requirements. For a month-long stay they can help with household items and equipment. Check seller ratings, photo reviews, returns and the full delivery price. Account, language and payment requirements can vary for foreign visitors.

9. Surfline — waves and cameras

Surfline Kuta forecast

Magicseaweed, listed in the old article, joined Surfline. Surfline now provides forecasts, tides, wind and cameras for spots including Kuta Beach. A forecast is preparation, not permission to enter the water: follow instructors and lifeguards and consider your skills and the real conditions. Paid features and camera access depend on region and plan.

What you no longer need for entry

PeduliLindungi was part of earlier Covid procedures. It is not an app you need to install just to pass passport control in the 2026 travel checklist. Check entry requirements on official Indonesian resources rather than old articles.

Practical minimum: Maps, WhatsApp, one or both ride services, Translate, Info BMKG and Love Bali. Add Halodoc, marketplaces and Surfline if relevant. Install apps from official stores, enable two-factor authentication, never share login codes and check the domain before paying.
